Coastal Mangrove-Based Socio-Ecological Systems (CoastMan)

I have been actively engaged in the Co-developing Decision Support System for Coastal Mangrove-Based Socio-Ecological Systems in Eastern and Western Africa (CoastMan) project led by Prof. Terry Sunderland in the Faculty of Forestry. This CAD $1.5 million project is funded by the New Frontiers in Research Fund – International.

  • I attend monthly project meetings and contribute to data analysis.
  • I submitted a manuscript titled "Mangroves as Land and Ocean Buffers: A Comparative Analysis of Mangrove Ecosystem Services in Ghana and Tanzania," currently under review with Oceans and Coastal Management. I am revising it following reviewer comments for resubmission.

BCDI 2030 Fund and Micro-Certification Initiative

As part of the CoastMan project, I am facilitating an additional BCDI 2030 fund of CAD $500,000 secured to bring students from Ghana and Tanzania to UBC for micro-certification training. I am currently coordinating partner agreements and institutional sign-offs.

Food–Climate–Biodiversity Nexus Research (Solving-FCB)

I am engaged in FCB-related workshops and early career research seminars. Together with Louise, I am co-leading a paper titled "Conducting Global Surveys on Coastal Indigenous Peoples' Seafood Consumption and Nutritional Security." We plan to submit it to npj Ocean Sustainability by March 2026.

Blue–Green Economy Manuscript

Rashid and I are co-authoring a paper titled "Blue–Green Economy" in response to an invitation from Communications Earth & Environment for their Blue Economy collection. Submission is also planned for March 2026.
